A big, big thank you to the Gala Committee for a wonderful week of events. Your hard work, dedication and commitment certainly paid off delivering yet another packed week for everyone. To those critics who are only too happy to air their negative and petty views - join the Committee - and see first hand how these volunteers give generously of their time throughout the year (most of whom have young families and other work commitments).
In response to the disgruntled resident's entry, the Gala Committee don't have a slap up meal in the Hotel on the Friday evening - your information is somewhat outdated!!!
Committee members Keep up the fantastic work - the majority of the community REALLY DO appreciate it. WELL DONE.

To blame the first float for holding up the Float Parade on Friday night is a disgrace, they held it up for less than 5 minutes, this was down to the Citybeat/Downtown Trucks which were probably only down as a way of making money by the Committee.
The Gala Committee need to sit down and seriously think hard as to turn an old aging week back into something that all people of all ages look forward too and not come up with excuses like "it's down to insurance"
If the Committee stopped going to the Portaferry Hotel on the Friday Night for a slap up meal that would well and trully save money.
Site Ed:
Having been on the Committee for 8 years now, I have yet to have one "slap up meal", in fact most of us are lucky if we grab a meal with our families at any stage during the week. As for your comments on Citybeat, organisations don't get paid by radio stations to join in their event, normally it's the other way around, Citybeat came down to add atmosphere to the event and did so free of charge, other stations, such as Downtown would have charged us for this kind of appearance. Perhaps you should sit down seriously and think about what YOU can do to make this event the event YOU'D like it to be, feel free to join the committee at any time, your first task could be ringing around for insurance quotes....

I guess that just about sums up the Gala attitude, "sure it's all a bit of fun". Wonder if you'd be laughing so loud if people came into your house and chanted the "f" word in front of your children ? There are young children all along the route and they don't need to hear that kind of stuff.
Site Ed: I'm very sorry you feel that way, it most certainly is NOT the "Gala Attitude" and is an extremely unfair judgement to make on the team of people, (most of whom give up their own holiday time) which works very hard across all the events of Gala Week. As I said below, yes, there have been complaints and these will be dealt with by the Gala Committee.
