Portaferry on the TV…

April 26th, 2008

Thursday, 1st of May sees the launch of a new BBC1 drama series, “The Invisibles”, although supposedly set in Devon, anyone familiar with Portaferry will soon spot quite a bit of the drama was actually shot here in the town. If you haven’t been home for a while though, don’t go looking for a certain pub on the shore front, it was a mock up for the duration of the production !

Snow, Snow, Snow-oh !

January 4th, 2008

Not normally known as a snowbound town, Portaferry was seriously “snowed under” on Thursday afternoon. The main road was closed for a time and many people faced a long wait as they returned home from work, some even had to leave their cars and walk ! It was a really odd day weatherwise as lightning flashes crashed across the lough well into the night and the normally mild temp sat at -1 for most of the day.

January…

January 2nd, 2008

I guess you know the festive season is over when the Square is quiet again, heading out to work at 5 this morning, I was walking to the car wondering what was different, then it struck me, the music from the Crib was gone for another year…. aw well….. back to the grindstone and all that !

Happy New Year !

January 1st, 2008

Well, the Site Ed has had his annual chuckle at Miss Sophie and Poor Ole James the Butler (First Tip for 2008, Don’t ask - just Google “Dinner for One” if you’re really bored some time…..) and the Bells have rung in the New Year, well in Scotland, if not Portaferry.

Best wishes to everyone for the New Year and full steam ahead for Gala 2008. As always if you’ve any ideas or comments for this year, please do get in touch.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

December 23rd, 2007

As the 40th Gala Year comes to close and (hopefully) everyone settles down to enjoy the Christmas and New Year holidays, we like to say a big Thank You to everyone, especially all the people of Portaferry Town who throw themselves into Gala Week each year, also the various business folk of the Town who support us so well and those from outside who willingly come on board each July.  Thanks too, to Jim Murdock from Ards Borough Council for all his help and support across the year. We hope everyone has a good rest over the next few weeks and we’re looking forward to Gala 2008.

Seasons Greetings too, to all our online visitors who drop by to keep in touch with Gala “goings on”, especially the regular reader logging  in from Tonga, whoever you may be !
